Free browser PDF tool
Add text to a PDF without uploading it
Type a date on a printed line, complete a flat form, or add a clear note anywhere on a page. pdfmend opens, edits, and exports the PDF on your device, so the document and everything you type stay in your browser.
No upload · No account · No watermark
- Place text anywhere on any page
- Adjust size, color, alignment, and direction
- Export a clean copy with no watermark
Four local steps
How to type on a PDF
The task-aware link opens the regular pdfmend editor. After you choose a document, the Text tool is selected for you.
Choose the PDF on your device
The browser reads the file locally. There is no upload progress bar because no document is sent to pdfmend or another service.
Click where the text belongs
The Text tool is ready after the file opens. Click a blank, margin, label area, or printed line and type the value you need.
Fit and position the text
Change the font size, color, alignment, or writing direction, then drag or resize the text box until it matches the page.
Export the finished PDF
Download a new PDF copy from the browser. Your original file remains unchanged and the exported page has no editor border or watermark.
Put dates and names exactly on the printed line
Flat PDFs often look like forms but contain no real input fields. The page is effectively a picture of labels, lines, and boxes. pdfmend's Text tool adds an independent text object over that page, which is the practical way to enter a name, date, address, reference number, or short answer.
Zoom in before placing small text. Each text object has a visible editing footprint so you can align it in the editor, while the exported PDF contains only the text itself. A text box can be moved and resized until the baseline sits where you expect it to sit.
- Use a smaller font for narrow form lines and table cells.
- Use center alignment for dates or short values inside fixed boxes.
- Use Undo or delete the text object if a placement is wrong.
Adding text is different from rewriting existing text
The Text tool adds new content on top of a page. It does not turn an arbitrary PDF paragraph into a word processor or reflow the words that are already printed. That distinction matters when you are correcting a contract or hiding sensitive information.
For a small visual correction, the experimental Whiteout / cover tool can place an opaque cover and replacement text over the old words. The underlying content may still be recoverable, so that tool is not redaction. Use Delete text only for supported text that can be structurally removed and verified, and always inspect the exported result.
Useful for paperwork you do not want to upload
Names, addresses, account references, and medical details are exactly the values people often need to add to PDFs. With a server-based editor, both the source document and the typed answers are transferred away from the device. pdfmend has no document-upload operation: processing happens in browser memory and the result downloads locally.
The free editor currently supports documents up to 100 MiB and 250 pages. It works without an account and does not add a watermark. Optional local library and draft features are controlled separately in the editor; they store data in this browser, not in a pdfmend account.

Frequently asked questions
Can I add a date to a PDF on a dedicated line?
Yes. Select the Text tool, click above the line, type the date, and adjust the box or font size until it aligns. The exported text uses the same centered vertical placement represented by the editor box.
Can I edit words that are already in the PDF?
Not as a freely reflowing paragraph. pdfmend adds text overlays. Its experimental cover and Delete text tools handle narrower correction or removal cases and clearly disclose when an edit is only visual.
Will the text box border appear in the export?
No. The editing controls are only part of the editor interface. The exported copy contains the placed text without a selection border, watermark, or pdfmend branding.
Does pdfmend receive the text I type?
No. The PDF and the text edits remain in your browser. Plausible analytics receives only coarse, content-free usage events, never document names, contents, typed values, or exported bytes.
Ready to work on the PDF?
Open it directly in your browser. The document stays on your device from first click to final download.
