Does pdfmend upload my PDF?
No. Your PDF is opened and processed in your browser. pdfmend has no document upload API for editor content.
Is pdfmend free?
Yes. During launch pdfmend is free for everyone — no paid plans, no watermark, and no account required for editing and export (within published size and page limits).
Do I need an account to edit or export?
No. The free editor works without an account and exports without a watermark.
Where are recent documents stored?
By default, opened PDFs are not stored after the browser session. Optional draft recovery can keep the source PDF and edits in this browser’s IndexedDB only. A separate optional recent-file library is off unless enabled. Nothing is uploaded. You can clear all local data anytime.
What can I do in the free editor?
Add text, highlights, ink, images, and visible signatures; fill supported form fields; rotate, reorder, duplicate, or remove pages; merge PDFs; and export a clean PDF copy. Experimental Cover text paints a replacement over text (not redaction). Experimental Redact removes matching text from simple PDF content streams when verification succeeds.
Is Cover text the same as redaction?
No. Cover text is a visual cover-replace: it paints over the original and draws new text. Redact is a separate tool that attempts content-removal for selected text on simple PDFs and verifies the text is gone from extract.
