Four local steps
How to add a signature to a PDF
Open the signing journey, choose the PDF locally, then draw and position a visible signature mark.
Open the document locally
Choose a PDF from your device. pdfmend renders it inside the browser and never sends the document to a signing server.
Draw your signature
Use the Signature tool and draw in the pad with a mouse, trackpad, stylus, or finger. Clear the pad and try again until the mark looks right.
Place and size the mark
Put the signature on the required line, then drag it or resize from the corner. Add a typed name or date with the Text tool if the form asks for one.
Review every page and export
Check initials and signature lines, then export a clean local copy. The source PDF stays unchanged on your device.
A visible signature for everyday documents
pdfmend adds a visible signature image to the page. That is useful for ordinary forms, approvals, leases, and agreements when the recipient accepts a drawn electronic signature. The mark remains movable and resizable in the editor until you export, so a poor first placement is easy to fix.
This is not a certificate-backed digital signature. pdfmend does not issue a signing certificate, verify identity, or add a cryptographic trust chain. If a court, government portal, employer, or counterparty specifically requires certified signing, use the method they name rather than a visible mark.
Sign multi-page PDFs without losing your place
Use the Pages sidebar to move through a longer contract. Add a full signature where requested and smaller marks or initials on other pages. Every placed signature is an independent object, so changing the mark on one page does not disturb the others.
Before exporting, scan the page list from start to finish. Check that no signature covers nearby text, every required initial box is complete, and the typed date is aligned. The exported copy has no selection handles or pdfmend branding.
- Zoom in before placing a mark on a narrow signature line.
- Resize from the corner to preserve the signature's proportions.
- Use Undo if a mark is placed on the wrong page.
Your signature does not need to visit a server
A signature is highly personal, and signed documents often contain addresses, financial terms, or medical information. Upload-based tools receive both the document and the signature image. pdfmend instead performs the drawing, placement, and PDF export locally in browser memory.
Saving a reusable signature is optional. When enabled, it is stored in this browser's local data for a limited period and can be deleted from the account/local-data page. On a shared computer, skip reuse and clear local data when you finish. Nothing is copied to a pdfmend server.
Straight answers
Frequently asked questions
Is the signature a certified digital signature?
No. pdfmend places a visible signature mark. It does not attach a certificate or cryptographic identity proof. Confirm the recipient's requirements for high-stakes or regulated documents.
Can I sign a PDF on my phone?
Yes. Open the editor in a modern mobile browser and draw with your finger or stylus. The same browser-local processing and no-upload boundary apply.
Can I add a date next to my signature?
Yes. After placing the signature, select the Text tool, click next to it, and type the date. Both objects can be positioned before export.
What happens if the original already has a digital signature?
Editing can invalidate an existing signature. pdfmend detects that condition and requires an explicit acknowledgement before you edit or export a changed copy.
Ready to work on the PDF?
Open it directly in your browser. The document stays on your device from first click to final download.
